March 2010 News Update

Some good news to share. I just heard from Mike Peterson (Wisconsin County Foresters Association), who received a call from State Representative Mary Hubler. The state assembly voted and passed our UTV extended/expanded today, 3/4/2010!! All that’s left is for the governor to sign it, as we know that takes some time but I’m absolutely sure we’re set now for the upcoming summer riding season.

That said, there are still some important implementation details that need to be discussed, worked out and gone over with the various land managers before the riding season gets here. Yes, still lots of work to be done but the first and primary hurdle is over.

For now though I just wanted to relay the news to all. I wanted to also thank our great partnership work on this bill with the fine folks at WCFA, our DNR program administrators and the state lawmakers that worked really hard with us to make this happen this quickly!! Good job by all.

More as it develops but for now an evening or to celebrate at least a little bit.

November 2009 Newsletter

Club meetings are held the 1st

Saturday of the month at the

Parrish Town Hall — 11:00 a.m.

Advisory Board — 10:00 a.m.

Next meeting - November 7th, 2009

Greetings Highlanders!

Well folks, November will be our last meeting for this year. We have put forth a lot of good things for our club this year. We have passed our scholarship program so be sure to check our website for the revised application and get it in as soon as possible if you have someone who wishes to apply. We have also installed a new stove and flag pole at the shelter, and have finished our painting and sealing on the shelter buildings.

Our advisory board will meet a few times during the winter months to discuss programs for our next season. We are planning to issue new maps for the Langlade County trails – maps that will be more user friendly. This will be done by the Highlanders and the White Lake ATV Clubs. We plan on these being ready for the spring. We also plan on a ride in November after the meeting. Use your own discretion as far as the weather goes. If it calls for a snow storm on meeting day you will probably be riding alone! I rode on Monday the 12th of October and we had
1½ inches of snow. It was a great ride but not the most pleasant one I have ever been on.

I hope to see you all in the spring and you will be informed of any changes in times or meeting days. One more thing, don’t forget to sign up for the Christmas party. Call me at 715-359-3832. It will be at the Eagle’s Club in Merrill on December 12th at 6:00 p.m. The menu includes broasted chicken and beef tips, parsley butter potatoes, peas and carrots, and a salad. (Dessert will be on your own). The cost is $12.50 per person and includes tax and tip. The address is Fraternal Order of Eagles, 1205 Lake Street, Merrill, WI.
